Keep Your Lower Body Quiet

Let's look at a drill that will keep you a bit more grounded in your swing.

One that keeps your lower body quiet to help you hit that sweet spot more often.

Jack Nicklaus said golf is played “inside the feet”—meaning your weight should be stacked over your feet during the swing. There are a number of drills designed to quiet the lower body and keep you grounded in your swing. So if you’re starting to feel all over the place in your swing then here’s one from Quite the Chap. It’s simple and will help keep you grounded, allowing you to hit the sweet spot more often, which invariably will leads to more distance.

So, this looks like a great drill (with range basket) for your “short” irons. Are you suggesting that this (range basket) is the proper distance to use for all of your clubs; even driver?

    Thanks for the response

Thanks for the question, Robert. I would suggest you use this drill for short to mid irons- this feeling of a quiet lower body should bleed into the rest of your game.

That being said, you can use long irons to driver with this drill as well. It’s not that you’re taking this stance and this set up to the course- what you’re accomplishing with this drill is ingraining the feeling of a quiet & connected lower body.

I understand everything you are saying until you got to the suggestion that it will give me/you more distance. How is that the case?

A lot of people think they’re going to get more distance by swinger harder/faster. And this can be true, IF you’re hitting the center of the club face.

This particular drill will help you hit the center of your club face more often giving you the extra boost in yardage.

Years ago, the club pro suggested putting your golf hat between your knees.

Asking a friend on the Euro Tour how to get more distance his answer was “swing faster but not harder”. Harder causes tension which slows down everything. So how to swing faster? Thanks, great series!

Good tip! If no basket, use an old golf shoe.
