How to Hone Your Accuracy on the Green

When it comes to putting there are really only two things that matter distance and direction. On longer putts the distance is typically the more important of the two since, but as you get closer to the hole direction becomes more important.

Practicing your putting by aiming at the hole is one way to dial in your aim, but shooting for a smaller target will do you even more good.

That’s why I like today’s drill.

It helps you improve your accuracy by giving you a smaller target to shoot at. Here’s the how-to…

Grab 4 tees and 4 balls out of your bag.

Taking care not to destroy the practice green tee up each of the 4 balls in a row so they’re all about an inch apart.

Grab another ball and line it up about 4 or 5 feet from the row of balls you just teed up.

You want to be perpendicular to the row of teed up balls so you can putt at each one individually.

Take aim at the tee farthest to your left and try to knock the ball off of it. If you succeed take aim at the next tee to the right and try again. Continue until you have knocked the balls off of each tee.

If you knock more than one ball off with a single putt you’ve got to putt all of the balls back on the their tees and start over again. If you can easily make it down the row of 4 try increasing the number of teed up balls to 5 or 6 or moving away from them a few feet.

This drill will hone your accuracy by giving you target smaller than the hole to focus on AND it will also ensure you are hitting the ball hard enough to get it to the hole!
