Unlock Your Hips, Unlock 15 Extra Yards

To maximize your swing speed and unlock 15 to 20 extra yards, you need to engage your hips more on the downswing.

Stretches for hips come in many degrees.  You must be very careful with your hip mobility stretches for those with artificial hips or hip replacements.  Do not cross the knee over the centerline.  Do you remember that from your physical therapy?

What’s up, GolfersRx! Mark Williamson, The Golf Yogi, is back with this Fitness Friday video.  Watch and learn stretches for your hips, no matter your current fitness level—fundamental and basic Hip Mobility exercises.

To maximize your swing speed and unlock 15 to 20 extra yards, you need to engage your hips more on the downswing.  These Hip stretching basics are a perfect way to start.  Enjoy!

    Mark,
I had my right hip replaced last year. It is doing great, but I am having pain in both my right and left sacroiliac joints. Anything I can do to ease this pain or exercises to do?

      Hi Stephen,

Glad you able to get back to some fitness after your knee replacement! I’ve got a couple videos that I did with GolfersRX a few years ago that should help you out to open the hips without kneeling.

Make sure you go by feel and don’t do anything too deep. I have all of my clients coming back from surgery stick to about 50% of max when they first start back and gradually go deeper the more you move and the longer you are post-op.

Make sure you talk with your doctor, surgeon, or physical therapist if you have any questions as to whether these are too advanced for where you’re at in your recovery.

      Check out these videos:

Play around with these a bit Stephen. There is no one “right” way to do these so make sure you play with different angles and remember that the goal is to be able to relax in these stretches, not go as deep as possible.

Thanks for the heads up Mark. We experienced an end of life issue with one of our video players. Should be all set now. Hope you enjoy and good luck with the extra 15 yards!
