Take Your Range Game to the Golf Course

We hear it all the time. "Why can't I take my range game to the course?" It's so frustrating not being able to replicate the swing you grooved at range when on the course. Mr. Short Game has an interesting take on how to accomplish this.

We hear it all the time. “Why can’t I take my range game to the golf course?” It’s so frustrating not to replicate the swing you grooved at the range when you are on the course.

The good news, Mr. Short Game has an interesting take on how to accomplish this. It involves visualization and a bit of lying to yourself.

Take Your Range Game to the Golf Course

I know, it sounds crazy, but in this case, we need to convince ourselves we’re on the course when we’re at the range… and at the range when we’re on the course.

The better of a liar you are, the more successful you’ll be. It would help if you got into character for this to work.

I watch guys take a driver and hit 100 balls as fast as they can. Who does that on a course?

Play a round on the range instead?

Keep the score card of where you play in your bag. Pull it out and play an imaginary round.

Mentally note distance and direction to approximate the number of shots you’d hit on the course. Score it ad lib.

Play all 18 holes, but don’t hurry it. If you shot 100 on the course it would take 3-4 hours. You may truncate that time, but don’t go crazy.

You can pass on the putting, lest the guy next to you wonders what world you inhabit.
