Hit It Longer & Straighter Series: Grip & Elbows

What do Dustin Johnson & Lee Trevino have in come...grips and elbows. One small tweak of your grip will have you launching the ball.

A very clear and understandable explanation of why my club face flips over
and I hook the ball left. thanks, looking forward to more videos

Do you use the same strong grip with hybrids and irons?

Personally, I use the stronger grip for driver only because I want to catch it with what almost feels like an “uppercut”. When the ball is on the ground, because the ball is struck with a descending blow, my grip for irons is not as strong.

Does the stronger grip and elbow under work for irons also?

I don’t believe tip one is right :don’t meddle with your grip :a neutral grip is fine ,see BEN HOGAN(The FIVE FUNDAMENTALS…)
Tip two is to the point .In fact it should be used for all the clubs ,not just the driver :the right forearm turns in sync with the body ,
It should be in a horizontal plane when approaching the ball ,which means the elbow should be close to the body ,,just as CHRISTO says you should doit. This is plain BEN HOGAN .

I appreciate the comment about the grip. Mr. Hogan certainly had a weak grip by today’s standards, however, in Power Golf his first book he said he could see 3 knuckles on his left hand. Much closer to how the guys on tour tend to hold it today!

I am sorry but I have used it and it works GREAT and I think that a lot of golfers out there would benefit with it. Like has been said you DON’T have to do anything about turning the hands over through the impact area and I think that in it’s self would help ALL golfers.

I fully agree with what you are saying and I have used this my self and it worked. But like most of us out there, I saw something else and went back to my old way and this was DUMB, I should have kept using what worked. Thank you for reminding me to go back to it.

It’s amazing to me that I’ll have something working and get distracted by some idea and the next thing you know, I’m off track. It happens to everyone but finding your way back is key!

You need to spent more time showing the strong grip.

Many methods such as AXYS shy away from the strong grip because it causes the lead wrist to cup far too much. You are having to rotate the handle clockwise in the back swing to try and flatten the wrist. Now I’ve completely shut the face at the top of the swing and if I leave it in that position, my club comes down to the ball 10-15 degrees closed and it’s a bullet hook into the trees. If I throw the club away from me with a club path from in to out towards the right rough I might start the ball on a path that brushes the trees on the right side of the fairway, hits the ground middle of the fairway, and bounds left into the first or second cut.

Love it and your excellent explanation. You said this applies to drivers, but wouldn’t it apply to iron play also?

Nice idea but for those of us that are seniors and/or have bad backs , this is could cause problems
