I think that was great advice and it can be used on all approach shots of similar yardages whether it’s a par 4 or 5. Thanks for the thoughtful lesson.

Rey Colby! Good tips/advice. I got a kick out of the fact that you read the wind with your face, because that’s the way I’ve always done it too. Sometimes if there’s enough breeze you can even detect a little more noise in one ear or the other as you rotate your face and it helps you to “home in” on the direction it’s coming from.
Keep up the good tips and play well!

Garry, thank you for the tips you bring to us out here in Never, Never Land where golf balls go where we dream but fades into the crock’s jaws when we wake up. I really enjoy your tips as many have said. The tips have helped me understand the game and myself better and I have made some improvements over the short time I have paid attention to them. Your insight on how to approach a hole is very helpful for me to build better strategies in approaching holes. Some of us need a few tips to develop an approach to analyzing a hole and the various ways to approach the hole. These ideas of yours are not some packed of ideas you can pull out of some cereal box or from Cracker Jack box. Read them on the tee and whack away. These ideas are not in my experience commonly written about or are easily found for amateur golfers. So thank you for taking the time to ENLIGHTEN some of us who can appreciate what you are doing for us. Las Vegas Duffer, Joel

Strategy is something not taught nearly enough.
It always amazes me when I see poor strategy with relatively acceptable shots cause a score to be destroyed. I wonder why people take unnecessary risks that don’t even have the potential for much of an improvement in score if the happen to work.
This was an excellent lesson. Your strategy tips on par 4s and 5s are also good reminders of how to make a hole a lot easier. Keep up the good work.
