Chip Shot Over the Bunker

Mr Shortgame is going show you how to take it over the bunker with some key principles.

Mr. Shortgame is going to show you how hit the Chip Shot Over the Bunker in this video!

When we find ourselves faced with a shot over the bunker, what do we do…we often put it in the bunker. And we just had a stern conversation with ourselves about NOT leaving it in the bunker.

Chip Shot Over the Bunker

Mr. Shortgame gives us some key points to ensure we give ourselves the best opportunity to get that Chip Shot Over the Bunker.

You’ll start thinking less about the bunker and more about the keys to this particular shot. We stop focusing on the potential ‘horrible’ outcome and more on the principles. Get it up. Get it over. Stress-free.

I love your teaching. Very simple. I am senior but I have no dreads of bunker shots. I need to improve my putting to be consistent.

Great tip! In a future episode, could you execute a similar shot (over bunker/golf bag) on a down hill lie?

“could you execute a similar shot (over bunker/golf bag) on a down hill lie?”

      Hi Jim

I agree totally with your request, I find that shot so hard with inconsistent and often embarrassing results. Did you find anything to help you master it?

Thanks Ian & Jim. Could it get any harder than that… over a bunker on a down hill to a tight pin! We’ll pass along the request to Mr. Short Game.

These are great, easy to remember tips for this shot when you have a lot of green behind the bunker. My biggest challenge is when the pin is fairly close to the bunker so you only have the fringe and a yard or two of green to land on. The shorter shot is difficult to get high or put spin on so it will stop. It’s also easy to misjudge and have it wind up in the sand. I usually just shoot for the middle of the green to avoid the sand and then 2 putt back to the flag and take the bogey. Is there a secret to landing it closer to the flag?

That bunker is almost exactly the same one I have to go over every time I play. Can’t wait for tomorrow morning!

Need to show where those shots finished. Getting over the bunker means little if you are in the salad on the far side, or in another bunker.
