Everybody wants to hit more greens in regulation. So, Get Creative! I hit my 8 iron 160 yards, my seven averages 172. Not every shot I face is a stock shot, though.
I may have 160 yards to a pin that sits on a back shelf. 8 iron might seem like the right club, but it might also make sense to hit a low 7 iron that runs back to the pin. I may have 165 yards to the middle of the green, but I’ve got some low-hanging branches in my way.
Hit More Greens
During your next practice session, zap one flag on the range and hit your stock shot to it. Now work your way through your bag. 144 yards: stock 9, soft 8, softer 7, creative 6, 5, 4.
This should give you some idea of how to hit each club to specific yardages. And this will give you the confidence to try different shots other than just your stock shot on the golf course. You will hit more greens in regulation and make more birdies!
