Hey, Quite The Chap here for GolfersRX. Do you know how to hit irons consistently? A clean, pure iron shot is such a good feeling. It’s like you never actually hit the ball, you look up, and there it is screaming towards the target…how did we do that?
In todays’ video drills to hit irons better.
We know that to strike the golf ball clean, you have to contact the ball first and the ground second. But how do you actually practice that? It’s like telling someone how to fly a plane and then expect them to fly…not recommended.
Here is a short golf drill you can use:
“The lay a towel down behind the ball” is always a good golf lesson.
Hit down into the ball but not the towel
How to Hit Irons Consistently
But let’s take it one step further with two more balls
One two, three
What we want to do is hit the ground at the furthest ball
then at the middle ball
then at our regular ball
We want to get in the habit of hitting the ground AFTER we hit the ball
This is an exaggerated drill, but it teaches us step-by-step/ball-by-ball
Take some practice swings hitting the ground at each ball
Then actually hit each ball from that position
Contact with the turf is out way further than the ball, but it’s going to encourage you to stay down in your swing. To move forward through impact. And it’s going to help you strike or hit irons better.
Until next time keep it simple.
