Stretch Glutes And Hips For A Powerful Rotation

Stretch your glues and hips for a powerful rotation. The Golf Yogi will have your glutes loosened up helping maintain your posture allowing you to fire through your swing.

Here is a deep Glute Stretch, actually a bunch of stretches for your glutes as well as your piriformis. These glute stretches will allow for a more powerful rotation in your golf swing.

Glute Stretch

What’s up, GolfersRx, Mark Williamson, the Golf Yogi with ideas for a stretch for the glutes.  Tension in the hips, glutes, and the piriformis can be caused by the rotation in our golf swings, and they can also be difficult areas to stretch…especially on the golf course.

You will want a gluteus medius stretch and a gluteus minimus stretch.  With the glute stretches and techniques in this video, you will have your glutes loosened up, helping maintain your posture and allowing you to fire through your swing.

Great tips mate. You certainly are very agile. However, as a 70 year old from down under, I have had back problems for some time which in turn has affected my golf game. I’m currently suffering from (what might be paraforma / glute) problems whereby the sciatic nerve is affecting my lower back, glute, hip and right own to my ankle.
I do pilates and gym twice a week but to no avail……HELP, any ideas on how I can overcome this problem.

    Keep up the great work.

    Many thanks and kindest regards

      Hey Bruce,
Without screening you, I would be guessing as to what you would need. Nerve pain is not going to be “stretched away” though, so I would refer you to a physical therapist to find the cause before you try to work it out with exercise or stretching.
Hope that helps to get you started.

Fantastatic exercises ,Bruce ,for the “gluteus maximus ” ,but damn hard to perform for an old man like me of 84 years of age with two prosthetic knees .I’ll give them a try nevertheless and tell what I think about them ..
Despite my (advanced )age ,I still play to a handicap of 7 ,every two days ,on the FRENCH RIVIERA ,somy form is not too bad
You are right ,the “glutes ” are the muscles which give you the power to send the ball far

I’m a 10 handicap. Had bilateral knee replacements last year. I’m a bit leery of some of these stretches since they seem to involve my knees. I think these stretches would help my swing.
    Any ideas?

I’m 74 and had a low back laminotomy last March and that helped a lot with sciatica – somewhat to my surprise. Now I’m on Celebrex and doing quite well except for a new problem – aching pain right behind my tailbone – especially when I arise from sitting – and this started several days ago. The first few walking steps hurt. Perhaps there are muscles attached to the tailbone area that pull on this inflamed area on every step that I take. Maybe I brought this on myself trying to use the hips/glutes as the swing “workhorse”. I’ll try a cold pack tonight.
