    Firing at the biggest part of this green could leave you a tricky downhill fast putt. You have enough backspin to avoid that. Many people don’t. The flattest part of the green and surroundings is to the left. Using a club that guarantees getting over the front trap and possibly going over with any easy chip is better unless you are pretty good out of traps. Summary – lousy sand player should aim left for a putt or a chip that is easier than a sand shot. A good sand player should go for the pin since a sand shot will still get close. Avoiding downhill putts that don’t stop (assuming fast greens) is best. With slow greens your method would work.
